Crossroads
It feels good to be cruising along a long straight road. You can settle into your seat and enjoy the scenery. But then you see it up ahead...a crossroads. There are four options to choose from: right, left, straight ahead or turn around. This is when its a good idea to pull out the map and make sure you're going the right direction and see where to go next.
Life is like that sometimes, but there are more than four options and no map telling you exactly what your next move should be. Just imagine this. You standing at the "spaghetti junction" of life with thousands of life choices crossing each other and no neon sign pointing the way. Overwhelming, isn't it?
I'm graduating this weekend. After this weekend I enter a time in my life that I haven't ever thought about. When I was a kid I'd sometimes imagine my life as a grown-up college girl, but never did I think about what would happen after that. What stretches out before me is a life with no script, except for the over-arching purpose of serving the Lord. None of the "who? what? why? where? or when?" questions have satisfactory answers.
When I'm tempted to be scared and worried I remind myself of a verse that has often comforted and challenged me.
"Let him who walks in the dark, who has no light, trust in the name of the LORD and rely on his God." ~ Isaiah 50:10.
I may not see the next step, but I can rely on my God to make a way. And of course I can't help but recall the other famous verses that promise a voice [God] to tell me where to go and for Him to direct my path. (Isa. 30:21, Prov. 3:6). He's done it before. He'll do it again.
